Jakob Lena Knebl & Ashley Hans Scheirl

 

 

 

In exzentrischen Installationen verbinden Jakob Lena Knebl und Ashley Hans Scheirl Kulisse, Objekt, Video und Skulptur und verwandeln die Ausstellungsräume in atmosphärische, anarchisch humorvolle Bühnen. Die beiden Künstler*innen entziehen sich jeder konventionellen Zuschreibung. Sie persiflieren die Mechanismen der Kunstproduktion und hinterfragen konventionelle Zuschreibungen in Bezug auf Genderidentität, Genres, Materialität und Raum. Vier Einzelhefte, zusammengefasst zu einem Katalogbuch, greifen die Dramaturgie der Ausstellung auf, in der die Künstlerinnen jeweils zwei Geschosse gemeinsam und je eines allein bespielen. Beiträge von Thomas D. Trummer und anderen Autor*innen reflektieren die Arbeitsweise sowie die konzeptuellen Hintergründe des Künstlerinnenduos. Großformatige Abbildungen dokumentieren die eigens für das Kunsthaus Bregenz geschaffenen raumgreifenden Werke.

In eccentric installations, Jakob Lena Knebl and Ashley Hans Scheirl combine backdrops, objects, video, and sculpture, transforming the exhibition spaces into atmospheric, anarchically humorous stages. The two artists defy any conventional categorization, satirizing the mechanisms of art production and questioning any conventional ascriptions in relation to gender identity, genre, materiality and space. Four individual booklets, compiled into a catalogue, adopt the exhibition’s dramaturgy, whereby the artists utilize two floors together and one each alone. Essays by Thomas D. Trummer and other authors consider the artist duo’s working methods and conceptual background. Generous reproductions document the spatially extensive works that have been especially produced for Kunsthaus Bregenz.
